Hotel Description

The Hostal Cantábrico was founded in 1890. It is located in the center of Madrid in the heat of route of museums (Prado, Thyssen, Reina Sofía) and between monuments and emblematic zones of Madrid (Real Palace, Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol). The hostel has 125 rooms all with bath and colour TV. We prepare in our restaurant a daily affordable menu base in typical home-made Spanish food. More than three generations since 1890 has been dedicated to the service of the visitors of this hotel with familiar atmosphere. Most of our visitors are groups of young people, sportsmen and tourists in cultural trip. We like much the atmosphere of the hotel, self-assured, jovial and friendly.

Ideal location for museums' fan. The Tourist Information Office is also very near to this Hotel. Quiette, not de lux, but very reasonable for a cultual excursion to Prodo etx.

It was very lovely trip and hostal, too. Many thanks.

This place is very central and very close to a-lot of sites that tourists would like to visit. It is very basic though and as with a-lot of Spanish hostal, a double room means putting two singles together.

Very well located, but with very, VERY, basic things. If the owners add few small amenities (e.g., individiual reading lamps for jet lag travellers, a small table inside of the room) will make the place better and more comfortable. We both doubt whether we will consider to go back there.

Wicked place, noisy at night at times because visitors are often young and slightly alcoholised :) clean, simple, friendly. what else can you ask for? very well located for tourism. Very nice old guy at the reception at night. Breakfeast is one major letdown. Disgusting, might alswell not have it. altogether, very recommendable

I would like you to know our stay in your recommended hostel was awful. It was 45 degrees at times in Madrid and the hostel could not supply us with a basic need of a fan for our room. Not only was our room hot but very noisy from the shouting in the streets outside from 2am to 5am. So if you only want to use the hostel for a bed to sleep in, think again!!

well... if the standard of service had been as wonderfull and pleasant as the one of ouer travel agent Sasha the stay would have been marvellous, in that respect. But unfortunately its not the case at this hostel. No smile and servicminded staff did we see at ouer stay. Perhaps it's the Madrid way of being/acting in the service business ?? (Just wonder since we didn,t see too much of a smiling service on other restaurants and shops in Madrid either). But otherwice the room and hotel was clean and nice.Breakfast was 1 bread one pc.of butter and marmelade, coffe/tea/milk. Thats all folks. Anyway it was ok...because then the fantastic "menu del dia"-low priced lunch-menu, on Madrid's hundreds of nice cafee and restaurants, tasted even better. Ouer room had a viuw at the backyard, not mutch too look at but very quite in the warm , aircon.free, nights with open window. The absolut best with this hostel is the place where it stays, in the middel of everything worth seeing or beeing in Madrid. All in a short walking distance. So we would like to come back.....never the lack of Catabrico smiles.

The staff is very friendly and the kitchen is the best in the City. All the meals served in the restaurant where typical and delicious.

THE HOTEL IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE SOL METRO. WE WERE ON THE FOURTH FLOOR TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE HOTEL WHICH MADE FOR PEACEFUL NIGHTS OF SLEEP.THE SHOWER WAS SMALL BUT LOVELY AND CLEAN.THE TOWELS WERE CHANGED EVERY DAY AND THE BED WAS ALSO MADE EVERY DAY.THE BREAKFAST WAS A TYPICAL COFFEE AND A CAKE, WHICH IN THE BLISTERING HEAT IS ALL YOU NEED.MY HUSBAND AND I ENJOYED OUR TRIP TO MADRID, WHICH WAS MADE HASSLE FREE DUE TO THE HOTEL.

Hotel is OK (nothing fancy) and seems to be in quiet street. Seems!!! Wait till after midnight and you know that Madridpeople can party till lait! (I mean till eight in the morning) so you better party along (as we did the first night) or have not too much sleep (like we had the second when we arrived at three in the Hostal.

The Hostal Cantabrico is right in the middle of town, only 200 meters from Sol (Metro). This means great location, but plenty of party noise until about 6 AM in the morning. I surely didn't sleep a whole lot, but my colleague, who had a room facing the rear, had a good night's sleep. Bathrooms here are incredibly small; my bathtub was about 20 inches long! Otherwise quick check-in and check-out, comfy beds and O.K. breakfast. Quite reasonably priced, but you'll get far better value if you stay a bit further away from the city center. WIth the Metro, everything is easlily accessible.

Dissapointed, room not that clean. On very noisy side road. I have travelled the world, and have never met such miserable, rude, unfriendly hotel staff.Would not recommend. Poor...

Clean. Hot showers. Nice people. Small room with no frills.
